Movie Reviews

Watched lots of movies recently but haven't had the time to write about what I felt about them. Here's a brief account.

  1. 300 : Basic purpose of this post is to bitch about this movie, so without further adieu let me unleash my . I really don't understand why this movie is running (ran) full house in most cinema halls in India. Are people so dumb or am I totally off track here ? I felt this movie if anything was totally insulting asians as a whole. It depicted asians as mutated beings while europeans as handsome hunks. It further shows asians as slaves and cynisists(is that the right spelling ?!). Also it shows asians millions of asians aren't as strong as thousands of europeans. Am I one of the few who has seen it this way ?!
  2. The Pursuit of Happiness :Now to something I liked. I felt this is the only classy movie made in recent times. What I liked most about it is it's one of the very few movies where you won't feel you're watching a movie, it's like it's real life unfolding right infront of your eyes. It's one where you feel it doesn't convey much but it'd have conveyed tons! One of the greatest movtivational movies ever made. Very good display of what courage and determination can get you. What's more ? It's based on a real life rags to riches story !
  3. Namaste london : Lets get desi. Good story, good cast but the good things end just about there. Bad direction, worse dialogues, even worse songs and there you have it Namaste London is done for . Literally. I wouldn't want to elaborate more on this . You woudn't miss anything if you haven't watched it.
  4. Perfect Stranger:Ummm. You surely won't get bored watching it. You would think you know the whole movie, but you'd be surprised at the turn it takes at the end. Hally Berry has done justice to her role and even though I don't think she's sexy , she looks kinda irresistable in the movie. A must watch for some , a so-so for most.

Let me know what you feel about my reviews :)

India - Cursed ???

11 June 2000 : Rajesh Pilot - Killed in a road accident .

24 Aug 2000: P R Kumaramangalam - Died of prolonged illness.

30 Sept 2001:Madhavrao Scindia - Killed in a plane crash.

3 June 2006:Pramod Mahajan - Died of bullet injuries.

These are just a few I can think of. What is happening to Indian politics ? One after another, every seemingly good actors are being erased from the dirtiest drama of the world. The young charismatic leaders who had kept alive the little faith that people had in transformation of Indian governance are being talked about in past tense. A dirty game is getting even more dirty with most of the referees getting out of the scene. I don't intend to say these were the only saviours for Indian polity. but these would've added a new angle to any new government and set things in motion in somewhat the right direction. With every person that much amount of direction in lost in a game where the whims and fancies of a few people decides the fate of hundreds of millions.

That's just one part of the story. Who are these people being replaced by ? They're being replaced by their sons and daughters. Who neither have the wisdom that these people had which they gained through their experience nor are they naturals like these people were. They are just there because their parents had been there unlike their parents who had made a mark on their own. Every political party wants to bank on the sympathy votes rather than letting the best candidate in the fray. Why not we be ruled by kings like good old days where the son of a king will be the next one. That way we won't be making a mockery of "democracy" like we are doing now.

Nuke trouble

It's called the landmark deal in Indian nuclear history, and it sure is. But is it time to celebrate ??? That's something that will have as many views as there are drops of water in an ocean. The deal is very simple. India opens up 14 of its 22 reactors to IAEA "safegaurds" , U S inturn ensures India gets uninterrupted supply of uranium. U S is saying heads I win, tails you lose. The IAEA like most of the world "organisations" can be taken synonymously with U S. What that means is nearly 70% of India's nuclear power will be monitored by U S and all the India's nuclear energy will be produced by uranium supplied by it. Indirectly U S would practically be controlling India's nuclear interests!!! What's more? What's U S trying to do here? The only real threat to U S militarily are nuclear weapons. The recent campaign by it is a clear indication of trying to get rid of the same. First came Iran where a democratically elected government's willingness to harness its nuclear energy was declared a threat to world peace. It won't take much time to turn Iran into another Iraq. What if India had not agreed to seal the deal ? Would it have suffered the same fate as Iraq? Many might argue India is totally different from Iran, but for US is it really ???

I want the buck!!!!

If you want to get your own copy of 'Da Vinci Code' one of the largest selling fictions ever written, then this may well be your last chance. As the hearing begins on the lawsuit by Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh accusing Dan Brown of plagiarism, there is a need for reflect at what we mean by plagiarizing. Is it the the copy cats that we are trying to fight against or the moola that the copy cats have earned we are trying to get our share? Would we have fought so much if the copy cats didn't make it big? The answer I feel would be "No".

I agree it isn't a good thing not being original, but if a person is able to present our work in a better manner, creating interest in a larger group of people wouldn't it be helping our cause itself? In the case at hand the book in question was written way back in 1982. One might argue that books are meant forever, but how many of us have come across The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail. How many of us would have been unaware of such a significant theory about the largest religion in the whole world?

Where did these guys get their theory from? It is obvious they would have borrowed it from somewhere else perhaps with a greater effort than Dan Brown . If that original source were to be alive and well today wouldn't s/he have sued Messers Baigent and Leigh had their books been as successful as Da Vinci Code? If the ruling does go for them, they wouldn't be gaining much out of it. Infact this controversy would have made the sale of Da Vinci Code skyrocket. and if at all the book is stopped from being published further , the value of those that are already in circulation will increase. A hundred years from now Da Vinci code will be sold at auction houses than The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail.

Plagiarism is justified to have an ill effect only when the original work still has the same charm. Not when the new work is going to be more widely accepted than the original. and fighting against it just for monetary gains is not something that we should be proud of

why???

Everybody usually start their blog with an "I don't know why" post, but since I have been blogging I do know why I am doing this. I am doing this to speak out my views about things happening around us. In my other blog I have been posting about stuff in general , more to do with my feelings. This one I prefer to keep strictly non-emotional. Hope I am able to do it.
